Notes: For kink meme fills, reccer chooses not to warn. For other fics, notes and warnings can be found in the headers of those fics.
Oh, how I miss Common Law. Common Law was a show that aired on the USA Network in 2012. It was about two detectives named Travis and Wes who were sent to couples therapy to work out their issues in between solving crimes. Over the course of the show, we learned more about Travis, Wes, and the issues that divided the two of them. The show was canceled that same year because of low ratings--low ratings that, ironically, don't look too bad now compared to most everything that's still currently on USA Network.
Although the fandom's small and mostly dead because of its one season on USA, I was able to put together a list of fics that focuses on Travis and Wes going to therapy in some way.
Travis/Wes, untitled kink meme fill by
2_out_of_3, SFW: parts 1 and 2 also hosted to my Tumblr. As a part of their therapy homework, Travis and Wes have to give each other compliment Post-Its every time they have an argument. They start off sarcastic, then melt into genuine. Pre-slash, slash, whatever. :)
This fanwork is very much in line with the homework Dr. Ryan would give the therapy group and Travis and Wes in canon, and this exercise helps the two of them connect with each other again.
Travis/Wes or Travis + Wes, In Joy and Woe -- In Good and Ill (unfinished WIP) by anonymous: part 1, part 2 (labeled as part 1), part 3 (labeled as part 2). 5 times Travis told Wes some happy memory from his childhood and foster homes and that 1 time Travis told him something about an abuse he had to suffer in one of the foster homes.
As I said earlier, this is an uncompleted 5 + 1 WIP, and most likely it'll never be finished, But from what's there, the WIP has Travis talking about his experiences in foster care, and the experience is explosive and cathartic.
Travis/Wes or Travis + Wes, Count It On One Hand (unfinished WIP) by anonymous: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4. Five times Wes saves Travis from a most certainly death and one with Travis saving Wes. Bonus cookies for one of the five being a psychotic ex.
Another WIP, but this time, therapy is used to showcase the times the partners saving each other in dire situations, helping them heal their rift.
Travis/Wes, Therapy Group - Episode One AU (unfinished WIP) by anonymous, parts all threaded: part 1, part 2, part 3 (with warning). Detective!Travis and Lawyer!Wes really are a couple.
This AU does what it says on the tin. Even though the two are actually a couple, and the two of them aren't both detectives, they still have their problems, and the two of them talk about them in therapy.
Wes, Travis, Dr. Ryan: What Hurts the Most by
meatball42 (AO3). [G] Wes shares his feelings with the group.
Dr. Ryan's able to save a therapy session gone awry into a trust exercise in this fic.
Travis/Wes, Dr. Ryan, others: No Smooth Ride by
Sandrine. [Teen] "If you ask me, you're pretty much married already," Jonelle tells him. "Liz and Richard, remember? Except that if you were, you'd at least get to have sex to balance out all that bickering."
Not only does this fic centers on Dr. Ryan's group therapy, it also focuses on the benefits it provides as well.
Travis/Wes: Every Time We Touch (unfinished WIP) by
thevampirepam. [No rating.] Dr. Ryan assigns the group the homework of finding new ways to touch their partners, and Travis makes it his personal mission to break through Wes' untouchable demeanor AKA 5 times Travis touched Wes + 1 time Wes touched Travis.
Since this is
thevampirepam's last fic, written back in 2012, I'm certain she'll never finish this. But this is another fic where Travis and Wes struggle with therapy homework to further get to know each other.
Travis/Wes, Chuck/Casey: Failure to Communicate by
asphaltcowgrrl. [PG | Crossover with Chuck] “Having not said anything the first time, it was somehow even more difficult to broach the subject the second time around.” ― Douglas Adams, So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish
In this fic, Travis and Wes are once again part of an established couple, but the two have to learn how to work their issues out when another couple appears in group therapy.
Travis/Wes: Paranormal Romance For Dummies by
watanuki_sama. [Teen] In which Wes is a vampire, Travis is a werewolf, and their biggest problem is not the fighting. It's the UST. Oneshot.
Even as paranormal creatures, Travis and Wes need therapy to deal with their issues, so they have to go to Dr. Ryan and group therapy to sort it out.
Travis/Wes, Dr. Ryan, others: moats and boats and waterfalls by
hito [on common_meme]. [Teen] Wes and Travis go house-hunting.
While looking for a new home, Travis and Wes make a stop to therapy to help ease their nerves over, well, house-hunting.
