Yuletide letter 2016

Hi, Yuletide writer! I'm
merryghoul. I have a few media accounts here and there, but if you want to see what I'm into fic-wise, you can check out my Pinboard:
merryghoul.
In general, I like works that focus on:
crimes
hurt/comfort
most AUs (see DNWs for a couple of AUs I don't want)
angst
fluff
the friends to lovers trope (where applicable)
magical people and worlds
sharing a bed
pretend couples
If you're considering to write something for Crueltide for me, I would not be opposed to the following tropes:
addiction
amputation
animal abuse
apocalypses
betrayal
body horror
brainwashing
cannibalism
character death (major and/or minor)
child abuse
claustrophobia
conspiracies
degradation
disease
dystopias
gaslighting
hauntings
humiliation
hypothermia
insanity
invasion of privacy
medical experimentation
mind control
murder
mutilation
dubcon and/or noncon
paranoia
poisoning
prison (and prison-like structures)
PTSD
sadism
suicide
torture
violence
For more sexually explicit fics/Yuleporn, my favorite kinks are:
knifeplay
spanking
bondage
begging
femdom
the "aliens made them do it" trope
the "sex pollen" trope
But if you want to write something sexually explicit without any particular kink, I also like that as well.
I would like to not see or read about the following:
character bashing
crossovers
vomitplay
high school/college AUs
mundane AUs (aside from the aforementioned high school/college AU, I'm fine with AUs some people might call mundane, e.g. coffee shop AUs, as long as the characters retain their abilities from the canon)
curtainfic
fics focused on a character's pregnancy
fics focused on child OCs (children already in the canon are okay)
fics written in second person POV (Fallen London is an exception to this DNW--see that section for details.)
songfic
Lovecraftian cosmic horrors
slavery
Don't worry about following prompts to the letter or at all--I'm sure what you write for me will be amazing.
The Bletchley Circle
Any (Alice Merren, Jean McBrien, Lucy Davis, Millie [Bletchley Circle], Susan Gray)
I was so disheartened when I learned this show was cancelled by ITV while I was watching it on Netflix. I loved seeing this group of women reconnect and solve mysteries while fighting against their limitations in 1950s England. I found the show well written and well acted, and it's such a shame it's not on television anymore.
Some prompt ideas for you:
Casefic! I'd love to read your take of what happened after "Uncustomed Goods," when most of the Circle went to Scotland after that trafficking ring was uncovered. Or you can come up with an original case with the first incarnation of the Circle, the second incarnation, or all of the women.
Anything that takes a closer look at any or all of the characters. Susan's life after the Circle with her children and husband. Millie and Lucy living together. Alice and her daughter. Jean in the library. Anything with these characters pre-series or pre-when they first appeared in the show. Or anything that moves you.
If these prompts don't motivate you, feel free to write whatever you like.
I like all the main characters equally, and would not be opposed to either gen or F/F with any or all of them.
Call the Midwife
Delia Busby, Patsy Mount
I've always liked these two ever since they first started appearing on Call the Midwife. I was devastated when the two cancelled their plans to live together in a home because of Delia's car accident. Things are better now that Delia's well again and Delia's meddling mother seems to be out of the way. I still fear some day someone might discover the two of them at Nonnatus House, but I'm enjoying their story so far.
Canon divergent AUs where Patsy and Delia actually are living together in their own home would be loved, but I'm not opposed to anything set in the show's canon. Some ideas for you:
Patsy and Delia living inside Nonnatus House, keeping their relationship (and sex life) secret from the sisters and the midwives.
Pasty and Delia's adventures in Paris.
Pre-series (well, for them) fic where Patsy and Delia first meet each other while working together.
If these prompts don't motivate you, feel free to write whatever you like.
I ship these two but am not opposed to gen.
Sapphire & Steel
Sapphire (S&S), Steel (S&S)
There are so many things I love about this show. Steel's detachment to, and inability to fully understand, humans. Sapphire's attempts to understand and emphasize with humans. The other elements that occasionally work with Sapphire and Steel. But what draws me into the show every time is each mystery found in every assignment--it starts off with something simple, but it grows to be something threatening the state of time. The resolutions to each assignment may not be happy, but I find them always satisfying.
Also: I have heard the Big Finish audios. Don't worry if you're not familiar with them; they're currently out of print and hard to obtain legally. But these audios are also amazing, if you can find them. (And I wouldn't mind a fix-it to the conclusion of that audio series, to be honest.)
I'd love to see anything you can come with for this fandom, but, if you're stuck, I do have some plot ideas below:
Casefic, similar to the style of the show, where Sapphire & Steel investigate a mystery in time. Or any assignment mentioned in the show that wasn't expanded on.
Anything exploring Sapphire and Steel's relationship, on or off-assignment.
How did they escape that cafe at the end of the television series, anyway?
I'm not requiring that you write Lead or any of the other characters (elements or not) from the show, but if you'd like to add Lead and/or other characters, feel free!
If these prompts don't motivate you, feel free to write whatever you like.
I ship Sapphire and Steel but am not opposed to gen.
Preacher (TV)
DeBlanc (Preacher), Fiore (Preacher)
I like everything about this crazy religious satire of a show, but I found DeBlanc and Fiore's story interesting. They fail to get the Genesis entity under control, so they're forced to try to get it under control again. They get close to capturing Genesis, but they fail because Genesis would rather stay bonded to Jesse rather than stay in a tin coffee can. (I don't blame Genesis for choosing Jesse over the can, to be honest.) And because Jesse steals their phone that connects them to Heaven, they're forced to go to Hell to get the Saint of Killers to stop Genesis and Jesse. And the saddest part of their story is Fiore may have lost DeBlanc after the Saint of Killers shoots DeBlanc.
Some prompt ideas:
Anything set pre-series: how DeBlanc and Fiore met, how they were entrusted to take care of Genesis, how they lost Genesis, or something else that intrigues you.
DeBlanc and Fiore traveling around the world in search of Genesis. You can expand on some of the scenes briefly shown in canon or come up with new scenarios that the show never explored.
DeBlanc and Fiore in Hell, traveling to find the Saint of Killers. Or fix-it fic where DeBlanc survives being shot by the Saint of Killers.
If these prompts don't motivate you, feel free to write whatever you like.
I ship these two but am not opposed to gen.
Rosemary and Thyme
Laura Thyme, Rosemary Boxer
The premise of Rosemary and Thyme is this: Two gardeners, one an-ex professor, the other, an ex-police officer, travel England (and sometimes abroad) to tend gardens, only to have to solve some sort of murder while they're there. It's your standard procedural show where the twist is "they're gardeners." And yet I adore this show to pieces.
Some prompts for you:
Casefic in the style of the show: Laura and Rosemary are tending to someone's garden when they're enlisted to solve a murder.
That one time Rosemary and Laura were forced to share a bed, since they always manage to sleep in separate beds wherever they go. How would they handle sharing the one bed?
Laura and Rosemary away from gardening and murders for a while, but having some sort of crazy adventure while on vacation.
If these prompts don't motivate you, feel free to write whatever you like.
I ship these two but am not opposed to gen.
Fallen London
The Bishop of Southwark
Fallen London has so much lore going on inside the game, but I want to focus on the Bishop of Southwark. The Bishop of Southwark's a complicated character. He wants to rid London of its devils, even going so far as to start an underground task force to monitor devils and to attempt to breed creatures that will rid London of devils. But no one takes him seriously. Even the devils laugh at him, because the devils have bigger conflicts than dealing with the Bishop of Southwark. And there are hints that in the Bishop of Southwark's past, he had dealings with devils that made him the man he is today.
For this request, you can add characters as you see fit to interact with the Bishop of Southwark--a player character that interacts with the Bishop and/or other characters, various named characters throughout the game (e.g. The Affectionate Devil, Sinning Jenny, the Sarcastic Music-Hall Singer, etc.), or other original characters. And, as mentioned above (and forgot to mention when I first published my letter), if you choose to do something from the POV of the player, writing in second person is okay for this fandom for me. (Don't feel obligated to write a fic in second person if you don't want to for Fallen London, though.)
Some prompt ideas for you:
Anything pertaining to the first mayoral election in London. Tell me about the Bishop of Southwark's failed campaign to be mayor, and how angry he was at not polling as well as Sinning Jenny and the Jovial Contrarian. Or how the Bishop of Southwark organized his supporters to attempt to wreck Sinning Jenny's and/or the Jovial Contrarian's campaign. Even an AU where the Bishop of Southwark became the Mayor of London, and what happened after that, would be great. Or write whatever moves you with this prompt.
The Bishop of Southwark monitoring the activities of devils in London. Does he have his eyes on a specific devil? Is he tracking several devils of interest? Does one of the devils even care that the Bishop of Southwark and his allies are monitoring them?
The Bishop of Southwark organizing a wedding, and all the shenanigans happening at the wedding and reception. What other things would the Bishop advise a married couple to do? How does he act around various guests at the reception, especially guests like the Tiger Keeper, the Affectionate Devil, and the Quiet Deviless?
Happy Yuletide, writer! So excited to see what you're writing for me.
