First off: what a great episode.
Second, ramblings.
This is the episode where Mike lies, gets people fired and lies again to save jobs. Yeah, good job there, Mike.
Mike is cleaning joint stubs. Yep.
Leading in to: Harvey meeting Donna at the elevator, only to learn (after a Zoe and Chunky Monkey interlude) Mike isn't at the office yet.
So Harvey meets Trent, the client at his office alone. And Trent doesn't want to work with him because of the nasty stuff that's happened in the past few episodes.
To: Jessica warning Louis about losing clients and his new rehab! Louis points out the hiring freeze trick from the last episode, but Jessica doesn't listen to that.
So Louis blames the nervous curly haired dude, Harold, for his lost clients. Because he can.
Mike finally gets to work. Donna tries to stop him, but it's too late. Harvey blames Mike for his lost client. (More "get your shit together." More I'm like Harvey, get your shit together.)
And then we go to credits.
Donna is upset at Harvey's harsh treatment of Mike. They talk about Zoe. She says "kick[ing] the dog." She has broken the fourth wall.
Mike is at a bar talking to a former Pearson Hardman associate, Jimmy, who buys him a drink. Jimmy still owes him one. They talk about Pearson Hardman and Jimmy's new firm, Bratton Gould. Yes, Jimmy is trying to lure Mike to the Dark Side.
Mike tells him about the job offer and Bratton Gould poaching clients.
Allison (a former lawyer at Pearson Hardman) is taking it out on Pearson Hardman, as discovered in the empty lost space that might've been on Mad Men last season (just kidding). Also: people know about the civil war outside the firm.
Fun fact: Harvey has Michael Jordan (yes, that one) as a client.
Louis finds out through Rachel that Harold's lost a client. Rachel tries to save Harold, but he's fired.
Fun fact #2: Harold also has a manatee tattoo. (Harold says it's a shark. I think he's lying.)
Harold doesn't have the balls to face Louis (that's obvious). He says he needs a place to think. He agrees with Louis--he should leave.
Harvey and Donna brainstorm ways to get Trent back. They don't involve Cats.
Mike tries to talk to Louis about Harold, trying to get his job back. But Louis doesn't care because he's a stubborn ass (oh, that's new). Louis gives in, as long as Mike looks at Harold's stuff.
Mike tells Harold...he's fired. And in front of Rachel. What a dumbass. But hey. Anything to spite Louis, right?
Allison's taking Pearson Hardman's clients--Louis' best fifth years-- to Bratton Gould. After getting tipped off by Mike (this is true, btw), Harvey talks to Louis about it. And now Harvey wants Louis out. Also: they're done, professionally at least.
Allison meets Louis. He wants to leave Pearson Hardman for Bratton Gould and is hoping his no-compete clause is wavered for a partnership (not senior) position. This will be hard, especially when the words "truly valued" are thrown out by Allison.
Mike is helping out in bribing Trent back from Allison. They talk to Trent. They suggest Trent take Allison's deal. Thing is, what's in the deal for Trent? Harvey hopes Trent will trust Harvey to find out.
Louis goes to Jessica about leaving. Jessica won't let him. In addition, she says he deserves to be senior partner.
Mike is trying to figure out why Allison's deal is so amazing. Before he can start, he gets assaulted by Tess' husband, who appears out of nowhere. Seriously.
Louis puts a resignation paper on Jessica's desk. He's leaving Pearson Hardman when Mike comes in the office hurt. Louis takes care of him. Yes. Mike doesn't reveal Tess' husband to Louis. Louis reveals to Mike that once, Louis and Harvey were friendly, but now? Nope. He's giving up.
Jessica confronts Harvey for getting Louis to resign over the Allison stuff. And finally she confronts him for his bullshit. Thank God. Mike comes in, bruised still, but doesn't tell Harvey about the assault. The deal's solid, that too good to be true. Mike lies about Louis looking over the contract. Jeez, Mike.
Harvey surprises Allison for lunch. She's lost the deal. And now Allison wants him to join her. Ah ha ha ha. She still has some fifth years from Pearson Hardman, but yeah, she has lost. Before lunch is over, she warns of other people trying to poach the firm.
Harold is at Bratton Gould (I guess forever, but at least he wasn't Chuck Cunninghamed), as discovered in the bar Jimmy and Mike are drinking in near the start of the show.
Harvey wants his name on Pearson Hardman's door to send a message to the potential firm poachers. Jessica talks about her strategies and how she's not rushing the decision because of Harvey's hasty judgements. Good for her.
Rachel knows about Tess' husband after seeing Mike's injuries, and, well, she "doesn't give a shit" about them. Womp womp.
Harvey and Louis look at each other, Harvey ripping up the resignation letter. You know, like those OTT wrestling scenes on WWE Raw between wrestlers wanting to fight each other (yeah, sometimes I watch that). End episode.
Next week: Wait, Rachel's biracial? Her actress is biracial? Her first name really is Rachel? She used to be on Deal or No Deal (the US version, obviously) and I didn't notice that? I didn't realize any of this until now?
Wow, I feel stupid.
