But despite Louis being Louis, this is a great episode about Rachel and her family. I don't care what the fandom thinks. I quite like her and don't find her whiny and needy at all.
Then again, that might explain my problems with fandom at times: I don't go by the fandom status quo.
(There are gifs under the cut.)
We start with...trash basketball HORSE between Harvey and Mike. Which needs thanks to Jessica, because.
Anyway, a client settles with Folsom Foods for 10 million, giving the firm more grief.
Cut to: Rachel and her dad,
Louis is in Katrina's office because he hasn't seen her. Also, he is a dick. He will sculpt his nails and hack into your computer as needed. Katrina is trying to prepare a legal case, but Louis will babysit her. Well.
Rachel sees Mike about her dad. (It is not about them.) "Is it so hard to believe my father's black?" she says when he freaks out. "You think this is a year round tan?" Mike says he's only freaking out because he didn't make the familial connection between Robert Zane and, well, her. She wants to kick her dad's ass as the paralegal in the Folsom Foods case. Easier said than done.
Mike and Harvey meet with Robert for renegotiation. This is Suits. Of course this goes badly; Harvey doesn't take the deal. Mike wants to shake Robert's hand after the initial renegotiation. Of course Harvey thinks Mike's trying to come over for a Zane family dinner once he's cool with Rachel again.
Katrina sucks up to Donna with pistachio cookies to get deets on Louis.

Robert talks to Jessica about the resettlement and slams Harvey. (Jessica: "No, he doesn't [negotiate like a girl]. But he does style his hair like one.") He says the firm needs a win after civil war and whatnot.
Jessica tells Harvey about the meeting. It's on.
Meanwhile, Louis likes juicing green things. While he's doing that, Katrina sucks up to him for "help" for her motion with a difficult judge. He thinks the case is Wednesday. (Crucial C-plot point.)
Rachel sees Harvey. Rachel doesn't go by Donna because she doesn't want to be talked out of being in on the deposition; Donna is a friend, and she's a good enough friend to do that for Rachel.
Robert sees Rachel at the deposition. Harvey wants the deal back on the table. Ha ha ha ha, no.
The deposition gets personal, as Robert talks to the client in a way Rachel perceives is against her. The deposition ends quickly, because of Mike.
Rachel sees Mike in the men's room for stopping the deposition early.
Meanwhile, Louis misses the hearing because he thought it was Wednesday. Instead, it was Tuesday. He tries to force her to write to the judge in apology, but she refuses.
Speech #216 between Harvey and Mike (in the hall) is about Rachel and Robert and the firm and whether it would affect anything. Which leads back to "Fourteen reasons while Harvey is an asshole." (And depending on which part of the fandom you find on the internet, they really don't believe Harvey is an asshole. Seriously.) Long story short, the client wants to take the settlement.
Harvey has to visit Robert about the settlement and rerenegotiation. Robert doesn't budge. Harvey threatens war against Robert in the name of the firm.
Harvey gets a bagel from a food cart when Rachel confronts him about the case (it's still not about the client, supposedly). Harvey changes (not really) his mind and continues with the case. Rachel almost eats his bagel because she can.

Louis replaces Katrina's files with pictures of himself as US presidents in court because he is a dick.

Rachel and Mike are going through files of employees at Folsom because of the case. Rachel says she won't talk about her dad in relation to the case. Rachel also tells Mike about Robert's disappointment (or perceived disappointment) in her. Mike advises Rachel to show her dad a different side of her.
Donna confronts Louis (er, um, "General Zod") about Katrina. Despite saying otherwise, yes he's taking it out on Katrina over the loss of Maria. Also, Donna and Louis haven't really talked in a while.
Mike confronts Harvey (with bagel)

about the Folsom Foods case and particular gender discriminating words, found in the earlier Mike/Rachel segment.
It's enough to confront Robert with the news. Robert's screwed.
Louis is detained and arrested at court for bringing his cuticle clippers to court. It's all Katrina, by the way.
In his office, Robert talks to Rachel about the deposition (not the case) and how she took it. Robert says, of a particular picture of her after a failed acting audition, how delighted he was to see her happy. He doesn't like how she's beating herself up for not succeeding. She refused to reveal his LSATs to her because of his perfectionism and states that she's not his little girl anymore.
In jail--yes, Louis is jailed for the clipper--Katrina and Louis talk about, well, Katrina and Maria. Katrina wants a truce with Louis, mad he agrees.
Jessica doesn't want the Folsom Foods case separated into 133 cases. Which leads to...
Jessica telling Harvey about a merger between the firm and Robert. More Harvey should be on the door stuff, but she refuses and fights back instead. (He's going to be on the door by the end of the season, right? Oh, great.)
Jessica meets Robert and refuses the merger. She's fighting 45 cases of discrimination unless there's a settlement.
Louis finds mugshots in his office, courtesy of Harvey. (Donna has Harvey split his pants. They're friends again.)
Robert tells Rachel he's dropping the case and that he agrees with what she said in his office. They're going back to lunch. (No foie gras this time.) Meanwhile, Mike frames Rachel's LSAT score.
Oh, it's Rachel's birthday in this episode. Sorry I forgot until now.
Robert tells Jessica and Harvey he's dropping the case...only to have Daniel pick it up. End...

for now.
So next week, after stints on Elementary and Lincoln, Daniel Hardman is back. Should be fun.
