Not much is known about the Last Great Time War. It's an event mentioned in book, comic and new series TV canon (possibly tying in old series TV canon), but aside from a few key events and mentions, especially in the new series TV canon, it's not a highly documented event in the Doctor's life or the history of Gallifrey. Since I'm down to a couple of bingo squares for

au_bingo and I really didn't want to write anything for this square, I bring you some what if? Time War recs.

The major character in all these recs is the Eighth Doctor, since he's the Doctor who was forced to fight in this war. And since this is the Eighth Doctor, a lot of the canon comes from either his New Series Adventure books or Big Finish audio dramas. Spoilers ahoy.

As resident Enigmatic Alien aboard the TARDIS, the Doctor finds himself questioned by his curious companions during a quiet moment between adventures. As one question leads to another, the trio end up confronting the harsh reality that was the Time War.

Into Warsaw by etherati (Romana II, The Doctor [8th]). Archive rating is all ages, but author rates fic as PG-13 for genocide. The Doctor has said goodbye many, many times, and the message rarely changes, no matter it’s a person or a universe. TimeWarEight.

Last Breath Before the Fall by Rivendellrose (Romana II, The Daleks, The Doctor [8th]). All ages.The night before she declares war on the Daleks, President Romana calls the Doctor home for counsel and companionship.

Nameless, Faceless by voodoochild (Romana III, Susan Foreman, The Doctor [10th], The Doctor [8th], The Master [Simm], The Rani, Wilfred Mott). All ages. There are no Time Ladies on Gallifrey any longer. The entire universe knows of the Weeping Angels. These two facts are connected.

Le Donne Che Piangono (The Weeping Women) – The ‘Thrice Cursed’ Remix by aralias (Romana II, The Doctor [8th], The Rani). All ages. Gallifrey is silencing its women. (A remix of "Nameless, Faceless" above.)

Only a Northern Song by Roach Patrol (The Doctor [8th], The Doctor [9th]). Adult. A dark and nasty little story from the beginning of the Time War. The Lord President Rassilon seeks to educate his Council on the ill-advised nature of disobedience, and demonstrate the consequences of recklessly, deliberately, and repeatedly engaging in said ill-advised action. The Doctor is just the right men for the job. After all, if you can't beat them, change them.

Rebuilding a Life by Settiai (Anji Kapoor, Compassion, Donna Noble, Fitz Kreiner, Harriet Jones, Ianto Jones, Jack Harkness, Martha Jones, Other Character(s), Rose Tyler, Samantha Jones, Sarah Jane Smith, The Doctor [10th], The Doctor [4th], The Doctor [8th], The Doctor (9th), The Master [Jacobi]). All ages. Near the end of the Time War, Fitz Kreiner finds himself stranded on Earth in an unfamiliar time and place. His life moves on, whether he wants it to or not. (Crossover with "NCIS.")

The Devil You Know by LizBee (Leela, Romana II, The Doctor [8th]). Teen. Romana sees the Time War at close range.

The Masterplan by aralias (Romana II, The Doctor [8th], The Master [Roberts]). Adult. Sequel to 'Wonderwall': At the Doctor's request, the Master helps end the Time War, makes the Doctor a lot of tea and has sex with him repeatedly. It's all very nice, which makes the Master wonder if he's losing.

The Only Renegade Time Lords Not To Be President This Time War by aralias (Iris Wildthyme, Irving Braxiatel, Leela, Narvin, Romana II, Romana II, The Doctor [8th], The Master [Other], The Master [Roberts], The Rani). All ages. In which Braxiatel and Romana are not president (though not for lack of trying). Meanwhile, various other unsuitable people are.
