So. That Burn Notice AU I'm writing, okay. I came up with the idea after the episode that aired on the 18th, but after the 26th.

To explain it a bit more, because I can, Michael takes a CIA deal (that fits more with the season 6 ending, not the season 7 beginning, which makes no sense, at least to me--or I might be the only person overthinking this dud of a final season), works with the Miami branch of the CIA and goes to the Dominican Republic without warning to his family and friends. After Madeline finds out, she asks the rest of Michael's team to get him back to Miami.

Last night's episode (I'm apparently in the minority of not thinking it was all good, because, once again, there are huge gaping plot holes in the A + B stories. "But Jeffrey Donovan was great!" says Burn Notice marketing. Me: If "great" is yelling a lot while appearing sweaty, then yeah, he's great): Michael's team tries to rescue Michael. And none of them are emotional about it at all. They're like robots that rescue people and say smartass things. It's creepy, especially since even the season 6 incarnation of Michael's team would care about Michael if he went missing.

Either this is yet another coincidence when I'm writing my Burn Notice canon AUs or this show has become so predictable to me I can guess parts of episodes before they air. Oh well.

In other news, I'm currently looking into canons where there's realistic British spycraft, and I've discovered The Sandbaggers, about a fictional branch of the SIS during the Cold War. Hopefully most, if not all, the episodes are on YouTube like The Prisoner. It looks great.

If you're not following [community profile] metanews, you should. I don't agree with every essay I've read there, and I don't read every essay in every newsletter (especially the fandoms I don't care for), but sometimes I'll find something awesome tucked away in the newsletter.

I was just complaining about the romantic subplot in this season's Burn Notice. For those that don't know, pretty much the male and female romantic leads are separated by misunderstandings (and possibly some of them caused by big, glaring plot holes).

The sad thing is, with six or so episodes left, I have a feeling this might drag on for at least three more episodes. I'm honestly shocked I don't watch Pawn Stars repeats instead. At least there's no badly-written romance in a reality show about pawn shop employees. The other sad thing is some people are eating up this badly written tripe. Sigh.

Anyway, I wanted to link everyone to this great essay (and responses in the comments!) by [livejournal.com profile] cornerofmadness I found via [community profile] metanews that, even though it's about the "alpha male dickhead hero" in a lot of romance-oriented fiction (including Clockwork Angel, which isn't a good book, by the way), expresses exactly how I feel about all sorts of badly written romances. Including this season of Burn Notice, of course.

Oh, I haven't done any Suits recaps this season? Oops. It's the Burn Notice AU that's eating my time. I'll catch up with those ASAP.
